Senior Lecturer in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois
Steve Hall has always been hard-wired to help shape the advertising industry in a passionate, positive, impactful way with his service as an educator, leader and volunteer.
As a Senior Lecturer in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois, Steve helps shape the future of the advertising industry by teaching, mentoring, advising and connecting students, alumni and professionals in an array of industry immersion initiatives, activities, programs and events.
Hall has been recognized nationally as one of the best professors in the country for contributions to advertising as a recipient of the Distinguished Advertising Educator awarded by the American Advertising Federation. He has also earned the University of Illinois
Campus-wide Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award, the Charles H. Sandage Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award and the
AAF James S. Fish Aid to Advertising Education Award.
For over two decades, Steve has served on the AAF National Education Executive Committee as a Past Chair and member. He currently chairs the National Student Career Conference Committee and is a member of the Strategic Leadership Team, Faculty Outreach Committee and DAE Committee. Steve has been a keynote speaker, invited speaker, panel moderator, panel participant and attendee at the AAF Admerica National Conference and the AAF National Student Conference. He has served as a member of the AAF Board of Directors and as a Judge for the AAF Hall of Achievement.
Hall is also currently appointed to the National Advertising Review Board as Chair and Public Sector Member of the advertising industry’s self-regulation appellate body.
As AAF Faculty Advisor since 1997 for the largest AAF student chapter in the nation at University of Illinois, Steve has led NSAC teams to the national finals, nominated more Most Promising Multicultural Student winners than any other university and recognized for contributions to multiculturalism and diversity by the AAF and created countless industry immersion and engagement programs for AAF student members to Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Portland and San Francisco.
Steve’s current service and volunteerism on the University of Illinois campus includes membership on the UI Athletic Board and the UI Senate as a Faculty Senator and Public Engagement Committee Member. He has also served on the UI Teaching Advancement Board, the Illinois Leadership Coordinating Committee, as Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Undergraduate Student Conduct and Chair of the Campus-wide Career Services Council. In addition, Steve also has served on the Department of Advertising Advisory Committee and College of Media Alumni Board.
Steve is a loyal alumnus of the Gies College of Business and College of Media at the University of Illinois. He’s a fan of Andy Warhol, Hitchcock movies, classic rock, California cabernet, the Chicago Bears, Fighting Illini, Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees.
