Serena Viswanathan

Associate Director, Division of Advertising Practices, Federal Trade Commission

Serena Viswanathan leads the FTC’s Division of Advertising Practices, which promotes truth in advertising through law enforcement, guidance, and policy initiatives. In her 21 years at the agency, Serena has been a staff attorney and a supervisor in the Division of Advertising Practices, as well as an Attorney Advisor to the late Commissioner J. Thomas Rosch. Prior to her current appointment, she was the Acting Deputy Director in the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, where she advised senior agency leaders on pending enforcement matters and policy issues. She has a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.
